Apple Strudel

The month of September always seems to sneak up on me - then it flies by so quickly. Once it arrives, all I can think about is apples! I love the smell of them cooking in the oven mixed with a sprinkle of cinnamon and brown sugar...Mmm Mmm Mmm. In my book apple recipes are a typical fall dessert and I can't get enough of them during these chilly months. There are so many options to choose from! Apple Crisp, Apple Strudel, Apple Cheese Danish's, Apple Pie, Apple Spice Muffins, Apple Cider - The list could go on forever!

So to celebrate apple season I made some Apple Strudel's lastnight - and Oh Man they were good! This recipe is all the evidence you need to prove that a beautiful dessert does not have to be time consuming, expensive or difficult. I tossed this together in about 10 minutes and let the oven do the rest of the work for me. It is so simple to make and so delicious! It's the perfect dessert to pop in the oven while you're eating dinner and enjoy it hot and fresh right after you've cleared your plate. It's also the perfect sweet treat if you're having guests over for tea or coffee in the afternoon.

If you'd like to try these yummy Apple Strudel's out let me take you over the ingredients so you can get started:

2 tbsp of granulated sugar
1 tbsp of all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp of cinnamon
2 tbsp of raisins
2 large granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1 package of puffed pastry
Confectioners' sugar (Optional)
(1 egg and 1 tbsp of water for egg wash)

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Beat the egg and water in a small bowl with a fork. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples.

2. Stir the granulated sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Add the apples and raisins and toss to coat them completely.

3. Sprinkle flour on work surface. Roll out the pastry dough and cut in half so that you have 2 rectangles.

4. Spoon the apple mixture onto the pastry to within 1-2 inches of the edge. Brush all sides with the egg wash.

5. Fold each side over. Then fold the edges in.

6. Transfer to a baking sheet (the folded side down). Brush the pastry with the egg mixture and cut several sits on the top of each one.

7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until your strudels are a golden brown color. Let the pastry cool for 20 minutes . Sprinkle with confectioners sugar if desired.

(We were so excited to eat it that I totally forgot about taking a picture of the finished product haha! Sorry!)

Happy baking everyone!
