Home Sweet Home & a Nursery for Baby

How is everything going with the new house? This is the question I'd say we get the most these days. Besides "When are you due?? Must be any day now right??"

We have quite a collection of pictures stored from the progress over the past few months - and so many people have been wondering where our Home Sweet Home is. So we have much to share with you all.

Finally, we have found Home.

Feeling at home really is such an important aspect that affects the quality of any long stay in one place. It's the feeling of comfort and belonging. Unpacking those stacked boxes and knowing they won't be re-packed next year is honestly an indescribable emotion for us.

Neighbours are friends to us already, we've fallen in love with a living room window facing the front yard, and the trees. The TREES! I never thought we would be so thankful to have such big beautiful trees on our street.

To see squirrels and other wildlife running around our lawn, and to have couples walking by constantly with little ones in strollers. Most people might be thinking "Hmm, sounds like pretty normal stuff to me?" But for us, this is something we've been craving so bad that we weren't able to experience on Beaumont Crescent in Kitchener. But we are thankful for each place we've lived each year - it's given us a clear perspective of things that we really wanted in our first house. We've grown closer as a family, and of course become professional movers along the way!

We have many plans for this place and of course things will get done slowly over time - but we're loving the improvements so far. A huge thank-you is in order to my Uncle Mark for doing all of the painting for us! And for helping out with other repairs around here. Ben is becoming quite the handy man himself nowadays so he's excited about getting his hands dirty and tackling some bigger projects around here.

We'll update more when rooms eventually come together completely over time. We mainly just want to thank you all so much for all of your encouraging words and prayers for us during this big step - we appreciate it so much! We are so excited and thankful to be raising our family here and look forward to the future ahead of us. We were going to to do every single room in the house in one post - but figured that would be a bit much all at once. So we'll start out with one room at a time to make it not so overwhelming. For us I mean;) So we will bombard you with tons of pictures now. Which is the fun part anyway right? :)

We finally finished the Nursery! At 2 weeks before the little peanut's arrival. Well, we're sure he'll be fashionably late just like his brother...but it's still nice to feel like everything is ready and waiting for him. So here it is - officially complete!

Before and after pictures always seem to amaze me. To scroll from one picture to the next makes it seem like you just snap your fingers and "Viola! Big transformation all in a few seconds!" Not quite...

It doesn't show all of the little details like putting furniture and shelving up, making sure each picture frame is perfectly straight, and the tedious little jobs like hemming curtains and organizing the closet. But each hour of work that went into this room was fun for us in it's own way.

It was our together time after Landon went down for the night. Just the joy of being together and taking the time to put so much love into something for someone that we will soon be holding tightly in our arms. The grumbles and laughs when things wouldn't turn out as expected - and to try hard to keep quiet since a little child was trying to sleep in the next room.

The looks Ben would give me on an early Saturday morning when I'd ask him if he minded getting the drill to hang something up. I have to give my husband credit here for having so much patience with me. When he would see my excitement he just couldn't say no. I love you hunny!

We wanted to do the same we did with Landon's nursery and place little things on his shelf that were meaningful to us. Like the music box from my childhood - the little bear figures were Ben's special touch from Germany, and the little lamb that belonged to my Grandmother.

Pulling these little guys out of the box brought back lots of memories for us from the first time around. Anything that would sing or rumble was a favorite for Mr. Landon. He helped me pick some special ones that we should hang up for little brother.

These pictures always make me smile when I see them. I had an idea in mind of what I wanted to put up on this wall - and just let my imagination go. So I busted out my scrapbook paper and some modge podge for these fun little projects to keep me busy while Ben played soccer in the evenings.

What a coinsidence that this little music box plays the melody for "twinkle twinkle little star". :)

This "Too Small" bin is something that most mommy's will totally understand! Best idea ever! It has the perfect spot on the top shelf of the closet. I'll speak for Ben when I say that he is super excited about this!

I'm definitely liking the after picture of this room a whole lot better! We're ready for you little one. We just have a few more final touches to make to Landon's room and that will be the next room officially completed. So keep an eye out for that post coming soon. Thank you all so much for reading! Have a great week!

Banana Cream Cheesecake

On Saturday we celebrated my brother Matt's 24th birthday with a BBQ at Charles Daley Park. My sister-in-law Michelle and I decided to tackle his special request for a Banana Cream Cheesecake - and we were both amazed with how it turned out. I have to say I was a little nervous going into this challenge because I've never even heard of a Banana Cheesecake before, let alone make one for so many people to try! But we went into this task with confidence and thought we would give it a shot.

When everyone started taking the first bites off their plates - we knew we did good! It was so full of flavor and the consistency of this cake was smooth, creamy, and perfect. You could totally add sliced banana's to this as well but we just went with the old traditional dollop of whipped cream. Divine!

I will definitely be making this again. It was so easy to put together and it's actually the first cheesecake I've made that had a flawless surface without any cracks. Wooo! High 5 Michelle. Yay for things that turn out exactly how you want them!  Just thought we would share this exciting new recipe with you all! Enjoy! This young lady is off to bed now. Night!

Banana Cream Cheesecake

2 cups graham cracker crumbs
¼ cup margarine, melted
24 oz cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
3 eggs
¾ cup mashed bananas (about 2)
½ cup whipping cream
2 tbsp vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place graham cracker crumbs into a bowl.

2. Add margarine and mix until you have the consistancy of wet sand.

3. Press crumb mixture onto bottom of 10" springform pan; refrigerate.

4. Beat cream cheese in large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. Add sugar and cornstarch; beat until blended.

5. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

6. Beat in bananas, whipping cream, and vanilla.

7. Pour cream cheese mixture into prepared crust. Place pan on cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 200°F (DO NOT forget to reduce temperature - very important) and continue baking 75 minutes or until center is almost set.

8. Loosen edge of cheesecake; cool completely on wire rack before removing rim of pan. Refrigerate cheesecake, uncovered, 6 hours or overnight.

Allow cheesecake to stand at room temperature 15 minutes before serving.

Nutella Banana Bread

Happy Tuesday! Hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend as much as we did. Wow, long time no update. It seems like apologies are what we've been starting off each post with when we get around to writing. So I think we'll just say we're sure that you all understand what it's like when life gets crazy - we'll do a shoulder shrug along with a cheeky smile, and move along here.

I'm very thankful that Landon has finally reached that age where he's accepted the fact that sometimes he needs to play by himself. I can't say he understands this every day that goes by...but yesterday he was able to play quietly by himself for quite awhile and be perfectly content.

Those days are glorifying ones for me! I knew exactly what I was going to use my time for. I've been wanting to try out this Nutella Banana Bread for quite awhile now so this was the first thing on my list of things to accomplish for the day. We really enjoyed it so I thought I would quickly share it with you all! If you're anything like us and love all things Nutella goodness - we're sure this will be a winner for you too! Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

2 cups flour

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 cup butter softened
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/4 cup mashed ripe bananas
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup milk
3/4 heaping cup Nutella

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9×5-inch loaf pan with nonstick spray.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda & salt.

3. In a separate large bowl, beat sugar and butter with an electric mixer at medium speed until blended. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

4. Add banana, milk and vanilla. Beat until blended. Add flour mixture, beat at low speed just until flour is incorporated (don’t over mix).

5. Spoon Nutella into a small dish and soften in the microwave for about 15 seconds. Add 1 cup of the banana bread batter to the Nutella and stir until blended well.

6. Spoon Nutella batter alternately with plain banana bread batter into the prepared pan.

7. Bake 50 to 60 minutes, it will seem a tiny bit undercooked but that’s what makes it good. Cool for at least 15 minutes in the pan, and then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
